Summary

For fans of We Were Liars, The Girl on the Train, and Gone Girl, this powerful psychological thriller with multiple mysteries is set against the backdrop of the megawealthy elite of New York City。 Toten delves into the mesmerizing yet dysfunctional world of those who manipulate but seem ever so charming。 With its gripping pace and Hitchcockian twists, Beware That Girl will keep readers guessing until the very last line。

The Haves。 The Have-Nots。 Kate O’Brian appears to be a Have-Not。 Her whole life has been a series of setbacks she’s had to snake her way out of—some more sinister than others。 But she’s determined to change that。 She’s book smart。 She’s street-smart。 Oh, and she’s also a masterful liar。

As the scholarship student at the Waverly School in NYC, Kate has her work cut out for her: her plan is to climb the social ladder and land a spot at Yale。 She’s already found her “people” among the senior class “it” girls—specifically in the cosseted, mega-wealthy yet deeply damaged Olivia Sumner。 As for Olivia, she considers Kate the best friend she’s always needed, the sister she never had。

When the handsome and whip-smart Mark Redkin joins the Waverly administration, he immediately charms his way into the faculty’s and students’ lives—becoming especially close to Olivia, a fact she’s intent on keeping to herself。 It becomes increasingly obvious that Redkin poses a threat to Kate, too, in a way she can’t reveal—and can’t afford to ignore。 How close can Kate and Olivia get to Mark without having to share their dark pasts?

This book leaned more to the psychological effect of trauma than any other book I've read before。 I loved the backstory of each character and the way it helped the two main characters to connect, but that also definitely lead to some toxic relationships。 But I enjoyed the read overall and I found it difficult to put it down when everything started go south。 This book leaned more to the psychological effect of trauma than any other book I've read before。 I loved the backstory of each character and the way it helped the two main characters to connect, but that also definitely lead to some toxic relationships。 But I enjoyed the read overall and I found it difficult to put it down when everything started go south。 。。。more

(view spoiler)[1。 Kinda seems like if some schoolgirls are being abused (physically and psychologically) by a psycho, manipulative male school administrator, they could just tell on him for having sex with various students at the school and that would pretty much take care of that?2。 But we're supposed to believe that Kate and Olivia are worried about their dumb secrets getting out bc then they won't get into Yale。Really?Does Yale not admit students who have had mental health issues, or who have (view spoiler)[1。 Kinda seems like if some schoolgirls are being abused (physically and psychologically) by a psycho, manipulative male school administrator, they could just tell on him for having sex with various students at the school and that would pretty much take care of that?2。 But we're supposed to believe that Kate and Olivia are worried about their dumb secrets getting out bc then they won't get into Yale。Really?Does Yale not admit students who have had mental health issues, or who have family in prison? In this, the Age of Diversity and Inclusivity? There's a lawsuit here somewhere。 3。 The ending was kinda like "oh right I guess I should circle back real quick and clear up what the hell that title is supposed to mean, since we spend most of the book bewaring a guy。。。 there。 Done!"(hide spoiler)]4。 The writing style and the plot were both just sort of rambling and inconsistent。Overall: meh。Or more like, meh minus。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Un libro que me ha mantenido atrapada a pesar de pasar mucho tiempo leyéndolo, se ha ganado un lugar en la lista de libros que definitivamente volvería a leer。La historia se basa en un colegio tipo gossip girl con todo el drama de un persona estilo You, lo mejor de todo es ver como las chicas del instituto se van viendo involucradas hasta llegar al final y ver como uno de los personajes principales se alimenta de secretos。

I hate, and I mean HATE the start。 It’s so boring。 I almost didn’t finish the book。 But gradually it really grew on me。 I can one hundred present say that the ending makes it all worthwhile。 Absolutely a great read!

A good thriller。 Liked that it kept me guessing right until the very end。

so good。

I loved this book。 I found it to be the best kind of gossip girl drama-filled book that keeps you guessing and thinking about everything the author has said throughout the entire book。 This book was so captivating it was so very addicting。 I couldn't stop thinking about the little notes that the author dropped leading up to the big event or ending to the book。 Also, Teresa Toten just so happens to be one of my favorite authors to write about high school girl drama。 I loved this book。 I found it to be the best kind of gossip girl drama-filled book that keeps you guessing and thinking about everything the author has said throughout the entire book。 This book was so captivating it was so very addicting。 I couldn't stop thinking about the little notes that the author dropped leading up to the big event or ending to the book。 Also, Teresa Toten just so happens to be one of my favorite authors to write about high school girl drama。 。。。more

It was a bit hard to get into at first and seemed rather disjointed。 A interesting teen thriller about a sexual predator and two roommates who both have issues of their own。 I liked Mrs。 Chen。 She was an amazing landlady/store owner。 And I liked Johnny who would make a good protector。 But most of the females in this were weak and somewhat silly over Mark Redkin。

This book reminded me of two other novels I've read: Reconstructing Amelia by Kimberly McCreight, and Good Girls Lie by J。 T。 Ellison。 Kate O'Brien is a senior at Waverly, a posh private school in New York City。 She's a compulsive liar and she's soon worming her way into the penthouse apartment of fellow student Olivia Sumner。 Olivia's got more than a screw loose。 She's at her second attempt at a senior year because she went insane the previous school year。 But then Mark Redkin comes along to jo This book reminded me of two other novels I've read: Reconstructing Amelia by Kimberly McCreight, and Good Girls Lie by J。 T。 Ellison。 Kate O'Brien is a senior at Waverly, a posh private school in New York City。 She's a compulsive liar and she's soon worming her way into the penthouse apartment of fellow student Olivia Sumner。 Olivia's got more than a screw loose。 She's at her second attempt at a senior year because she went insane the previous school year。 But then Mark Redkin comes along to join the faculty and Kate knows what he's all about。 He is like her own late father, an evil man if there ever was one。 How can she convince Olivia to ditch the pyschopath before he spills the beans on their secrets? There was one line in the book describing Kate that I'll include here, because it shows how carefully she cultivates her image to lure in a sucker for her to survive off of: Street smart, book smart and beautiful were good cards, but being poor and mysterious was catnip to the inbred denizens of Waverly。 。。。more

The first book I’ve read from my “A box of stories” subscription。 I really enjoyed this - so much so I’ve read the whole book in less than 24 hours! Such good twists within it that I completely didn’t expect! Would definitely recommend。

Now I didn't think I would enjoy this book however I gave it a shot。 The first 100 or so pages I wasn't hooked but I kept going as the short chapters and switching POV kept me from getting bored。 Then the story really picked up and I was intrigued。 The reason I didn't want to read this book is because the blurb did not draw me in。 Teresa Toten did not give me enough info to pull me in but I am glad she didn't。 The less I knew the better in this case because I was mind blown when the story starte Now I didn't think I would enjoy this book however I gave it a shot。 The first 100 or so pages I wasn't hooked but I kept going as the short chapters and switching POV kept me from getting bored。 Then the story really picked up and I was intrigued。 The reason I didn't want to read this book is because the blurb did not draw me in。 Teresa Toten did not give me enough info to pull me in but I am glad she didn't。 The less I knew the better in this case because I was mind blown when the story started to unravel。 One minute I was forcing myself to read it the next I was hooked until the end。 The ending is EPIC, I did not expect it especially with the last scene。 There was so much foreshadowing yet I did not have a clue and I wished I picked up on it earlier。This read was not wanted but thoroughly enjoyed。 I would recommend this book however it is disturbing and does follow story lines that can be triggering for those with traumatic pasts。 Although it doesn't go into great detail it does touch the surfaces of some wider issues and experiences individuals have had in society。 。。。more

Not a great book。 Ending was rushed and development of plot thin。 It might be an attempt to shine a light on predatory actions of trusted school employees, but doesn't due victims justice。 On the other hand, as the title suggests, it doesn't paint women/ young ladies in a good picture, and lacks true development of what it was trying to acquire。 Not a great book。 Ending was rushed and development of plot thin。 It might be an attempt to shine a light on predatory actions of trusted school employees, but doesn't due victims justice。 On the other hand, as the title suggests, it doesn't paint women/ young ladies in a good picture, and lacks true development of what it was trying to acquire。 。。。more
